Look what I found under the Christmas tree!

For over a year, I had my eye on this full-frame, mirrorless camera by Sony. First intended as a 40th birthday present, it was the best Christmas present ever.

Secretly bought by Brian and sneakily concealed inside unrelated packaging, it was a complete surprise. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I caught the first glimpse of the box.

Twenty years ago for my 20th birthday, my family clubbed together to buy me my first SLR (single lens reflex) camera.

Eleven years ago, Brian bought me for Christmas my first DSLR, a Canon EOS 300D, because his photography-mad friend Matt had one. Sadly, it died of old age last summer. Since then, I had been using sister-in-law Paula’s Canon EOS 1000D.

Two days ago, Brian surprised me with my first professional camera, a Sony A7 II, chosen for its full frame sensor, its low light performance, and its relatively small size and weight. It will take me an age to learn how to make the most of it. But I have time on my side… and Brian.

He obligingly stops the car every time I wish to take a picture from the roadside.

He patiently minds the children every time I lag behind on our outings to capture a scene or a moment.

He secretly got me the camera I had been hankering after.

His unwavering support means the world to me.

Regardez ce que j’ai trouvé au pied du sapin !

Depuis plus d’un an, je convoitais cet appareil photo Sony à capteur plein format. D’abord envisagé comme cadeau d’anniversaire pour mes 40 ans, il a été ma belle surprise de Noël.

Commandé en secret par Brian et caché dans plusieurs emballages trompeurs, pour une surprise totale. Je n’en croyais pas mes yeux quand j’ai aperçu la boîte.

Il y a vingt ans, pour mes 20 ans, ma famille m’avait offert mon premier appareil réflex.

Il y a onze ans, Brian m’a offert pour Noël mon premier réflex numérique, un Canon EOS 300D, parce que son ami Matt, passionné de photo, en avait un. Cet appareil est mort de vieillesse l’été dernier. J’utilisais depuis le Canon EOS 1000D de ma belle-soeur Paula.

Il y a deux jours, Brian m’a surprise en m’offrant mon premier appareil de pro, un Sony A7 II, choisi pour son capteur plein format, sa performance en condition de faible luminosité, et sa taille compacte et son poids limité. Il va me falloir longtemps pour apprendre à en tirer le meilleur. Mais j’ai le temps… et Brian.
Il arrête obligeamment la voiture chaque fois que je souhaite faire une photo du bord de la route.

Il s’occupe patiemment des enfants chaque fois que je suis à la traîne lors de nos escapades pour capturer un paysage ou un moment.

Il vient d’acheter secrètement l’appareil de mes rêves.

Rien ne serait possible sans son soutien indéfectible.
